This mosaic is another landscape that floated through my head, inspired by the materials, smooth and rough, matte and shiny, sharp and dull. It began with the river-washed aqua pebbles that seem to flow together, mixing light and dark, pooling, spilling out. The river flows through fields of tesserae, glass, ceramic and Italian golds. Although I have a sense of what I want the mosaic to be, I work in an unplanned manner, allowing the materials to drive the process. I try different combinations of materials, looking for the one that speaks to me in a special way. |
